What Size Concrete Weight Do I Need?

40kg, 100kg, 500kg or 1000kg? A quick guide to picking the right block for the job.

The short answer

Match the block to the job. 40kg blocks suit gazebos, market stalls, signage and light fencing. 100kg blocks handle bigger marquees, exposed fence lines and heavier hold-downs. 500kg and 1000kg blocks are for kentledge and serious counterweight. How many you need, and how heavy per point, depends on the size of the structure and how exposed the site is, so use the guide below to pick a size, then check the relevant weighting guide for the numbers.

Pick by the job

40kg

The everyday block. Gazebos, market stalls, feather flags, A-frames and light fencing. Carried by hand, sold in sets to weight a whole structure.

100kg

The step up. Larger marquees, exposed fence runs, hoarding and heavier hold-down jobs where 40kg is not enough per point.

500kg

Heavy ballast. Large structures and demanding counterweight jobs, moved by forklift or pallet truck. A step between the 100kg block and the one-tonne single.

1000kg

The one-tonne single. Industrial kentledge for counterweighting plant, rigs, tanks and temporary works. Placed by machine.

Sizing by the numbers

Picking a size is the first step. How much weight you actually need per leg, foot or point depends on the job and the exposure, so once you have a size in mind, check the guide for your use:

Common questions

What size concrete weight do I need for a gazebo?

The 40kg block is the usual choice for gazebos and market stalls, one per leg as a starting point, more on exposed sites. See our guide on how much gazebo weights need to weigh for the detail.

What is the difference between the weights?

Size and job. 40kg is the everyday hand-placed block for events and light fencing, 100kg is the heavier step-up, and 500kg and 1000kg are machine-handled kentledge for serious counterweight. They share the same solid precast build.

What size do I need for fencing or signage?

A 40kg block suits most fence feet, A-frames and signage, stepping up to 100kg on long or exposed fence runs and larger boards. Weight every foot or leg, not just some.

Can I mix different sizes?

Yes. Order different weights on one delivery to suit different jobs, or use heavier blocks where a structure is more exposed. Tell us the mix you need and we will quote it.
